Savannah has a love/hate relationship with outside. In the Summer, if the weather was uncomfortable in even the slightest, most miniscule way- I’m talking a hair to breezy- she’d prefer to be inside. I can usually trick her into coming outside in the heat by hyping her up for the pool, or sandbox or her absolute fave sidewalk chalk. The rain annoys her and after running through it and splashing in a puddle she’s over the entire experience. Countless park outings, zoo trips and hikes have ended in her complete shut down when faced with the elements. Not only is she not here for it she genuinely doesn’t understand why we keep playing with her. Winter, however, is where she shines. My child who barely tolerates the heat asks to go outside in the cold at least twice a day-every day. Which blows because we live in Ohio and it’s cold for something like, five months a year. I’m game to take the kids outside on any day that the weather is above 32 degrees. Thirty two is my personal limit. Thirty one is where I go from “Let’s make snow angels, sweeties” to “Throw snow at me again and I’m throwing bows”. Sure, I could just let them go outside and play alone, with me watching from our gigantic picture window (Our backyard is fenced in, we know our neighbors enough that they’ll holler if they see someone making off with our kids and we live in a safe place.) But still, I don’t want some Helicopter Mom seeing me giving my kids an ounce of freedom and calling the cops. I get them out on the warmer days for a few minutes but it’s not enough. I can feel them slowly going stir crazy. Even with indoor activities, kids need fresh air. Luckily, Saturday we got a few inches of snow AND it stayed warm enough to be outside for more than ten minutes, so I got the kids shovels from Target and we all went outside to dig ourselves out. Big fun was had. Savannah made her first snowman of the year, which was actually a handful of snow with a leaf stuck in the top-Bravo, Miles practiced shoveling like his dad because he’s pretty sure his dad is a professional yard cleaner and Kenny got to teach me how to shovel..which is unnecessary but I was busy taking pictures so 🤷🏾♀️. Unfortunately, it’s around 13 degrees out today so no snow play, but we can look at the pictures together.
